Oldstep Atelier

About the atelier

Small-batch thinking for everyday light.

Oldstep Atelier began with a simple question: could candle making feel less like following a recipe and more like learning a material? We build courses that make space for observation, precise notes, and personal taste.

Our story

Founded by maker and scent educator Mara Ellison, Oldstep Atelier grew from weekend studio sessions into a focused learning space for curious beginners and returning makers. Every lesson is tested in small batches before it reaches the catalog.

Our mission

To help people make useful, beautiful objects with attention rather than excess.

How we teach

Clear foundations

We explain the why behind each step so students can adapt rather than memorize.

Measured experiments

You will compare small variables and record what changes, creating confidence through evidence.

Respect for materials

Wax, wick, vessel, and fragrance each have a role, and our courses treat them with care.
